Been on a Makoto Shinkai run recently. My film consumption usually follows no real order, but I had to prepare myself for the release of the latter film.

Up first from 2007 is Shinkai's second feature-length film. Following a young boy from his late elementary school days to early adulthood and told in three parts totaling just over an hour, this is a film that reflects on love lost and love unrealized, as the cherry blossoms fall 5 Centimeters Per Second.



As of a few months ago, Shinkai's latest film, from 2016, is now the highest-grossing anime film of all time adjusted and unadjusted for inflation. In a body switch dramedic somewhat-romance that has some calling it a Japanese Freaky Friday, this is Your Name:



More recently, I've been dabbling in a few National Film Board of Canada animated shorts - from the conventional to the experimental. Here's something on the experimental side. From 1966, this is René Jodoin's Notes on a Triangle:

Not my usual choice for a movie....but I enjoyed it.My two youngest sons loved to play the game.
